Loughton Athletic Club celebrated earlier this month when long-serving member Peter Cassidy was honoured with the prestigious Services to Athletics and Running Award at the England Athletics Volunteer Awards (East Region).
Peter, 84, was presented with his award by Chris Jones, CEO of England Athletics, at an awards ceremony in Bury St Edmunds.

Peter was nominated by Loughton AC in recognition of his many years of service to the club and to race walking in general: he has officiated at the Olympics and the Commonwealth Games, was Secretary and then President of the Race Walking Association, and is a Life Member of Essex County Athletic Association, among other achievements.
He still coaches at the club every week, and spends his weekends judging and officiating at athletics and race walking events around the country.
Club member David Hobbs said: ‘Peter is an ever-present person that every club needs and isn’t always appreciated for what they bring… whatever you ask Peter to do in connection with athletics and at Loughton AC, he’s your man.’
