Loughton AC completed their second annual Food Bank Run on Tuesday, collecting for Epping Forest Foodbank.
The club’s runners - aged 8 to 88 - brought along donations of food and essential items to their training session. The U12s squad put the ‘run’ into ‘Food Bank Run’ by running multiple times up and down a 100m path to take the items from the clubhouse to the waiting cars.
More than 60kg of items were weighed in by foodbank volunteers the following morning.
The Food Bank Run initiative began in 2023 in Fareham and quickly became a national movement. More than 500 running clubs and groups are now involved under the strapline ‘the running community helping the local community’. This winter, the initiative hopes to exceed the equivalent 336,875 meals donated in 2023 for families and individuals who are struggling to put food on their tables.
Club Coach Mary Knapman said: ‘As usual, Loughton AC’s members surpassed themselves and it was our privilege as a club to be able to support Epping Forest Foodbank’s brilliant and much-needed work. We look forward to continuing to donate and to playing a small part in helping our community through the fantastic Food Bank Run project.’
